Total Distance - 42,794 miles

Longest Route - I-90; Seattle, WA. to Boston, MA; 3,085.27 miles

Shortest Route - I-97; Annapolis, MD. to Baltimore, MD; 17.57 miles

Oldest Segment - The oldest segment predates the interstate system. Grand Central Parkway in Queens, New York, opened in 1936 and was later melded into the interstate highway system as I-278.

Exceptions - All but six state capitals are served by the interstate highway system. Those that are not served are Juneau, AK; Dover, DE; Jefferson City, MO; Carson City, NV and Pierre, SD.

Alaska - There are no interstates in Alaska.

Hawaii - There are two interstates in Hawaii.

Route 66 - commissioned in 1926, it crosses 8 states and 3 timezones. In 1985, Route 66 was officially decommissioned.
